Sorry guys,

The 2nd and 3rd pictures are not showing the colour correctly..... Umm they look like gold ::) I wish ;D the rock colour should be like the 1st picture....

God bless
Peter

Possible meteorite, hence the brown discoloration when metal rusts from either rain, or other contaminants. I am a newb when it comes to meteorites (just got interested in them a couple weeks now haha). My guestimation would be an Iron meteorite but again i'm a newb.

Hi, Peter...

The color and what looks like a fusion crust in the top photo, along with the strong magnetic attraction, all seem promising. Here's a page of links to some good meteorite ID websites:

All the best,

Thanks guys for the replies.... I will check out that link.

How do you value a rock like this.... if it is one?

Also what I forgot to tell you is that the Vrederfort Dome is not that far from us, and when the meteor hit to create that crater, it travelled all the way to us to create the Gatsrand range...... So maybe the rock is a part of that meteorite.

God bless
Peter

Check your messages, Peter. I'm sending contact information for several meteorite specialists who can help you.

How do you value the possible meteorite you may have?

research,research,research my friend!

Peter

I went to Meteorite Impact.com and it looks as if they are off the board for now. I have a few rocks which are all magnetic. The rock with the red dot under it is magnetic, has a streak color of light grey and is heavier then others of it's own size and as you can see I shaved a little off to find all metal and no holes at all.Could this be a meteorite? This rock has a smooth outside and that odd shape sort of squarish.

This rock has a grey streak so I guess it is not a meteorite. :( I scratched it many times and it still streaks pencil grey and what I read is they do not streak at all.Anyway, I won't stop looking. Thank you for your reply.

oh man , i was detecting a year or two back and came aross a lump of rock about the size of my hand that was extra heavy and rusting and melted on one side ,about 4 inches below the surface...it was in the middle of a paddock that my father didnt really do much with..

i took it home but threw it out about 6 months ago because it was always in my way.. :o :(

stupid me..
