i live in Ontario Canada and I found this copper object in my my lawn a year or so ago it's about 1CM across and the plate is very thin, the ring is made of copper wire and the ends fused to eachother to make the ring. The loop holding the plate and ring together is a piece of flat wire twisted at the ends. I got a suggestion it could be an upholstery button but it looks too weak to be one, the property can only be put back to the 1930s. There were reported to be possibly around 70 native community's here in the area and this property is right on the lake near the mouth of a channel, Samuel DE Champlain the famous explorer passed right by this property in 1615 possibly even on it (8 years after the settlement in James town, VA), and this town was supposedly a main meeting place for the confederacy's in the 1700s, and in 1830s a lock and dam were built to flood the lake, so the shore line was a bit further out from where it is now. so what is it modern junk or something else?

Just guessing but it looks like a button back. The additional ring is for, some say, attaching to the inside of the coat. Or a spare button.

Looks newer to me, and possible military. I'm reminded of "pop-and-drops" used by engineers to blow up mines. They were timed blasting caps that you'd pull the pin on and drop it on the mine as you were leaving. You'd typically have about 30 secs to get far enough away from the site.
