You know it could also be a small pestle for grinding herbs also by looking at the use end.

You can see battering wear on both ends of a stone nicely shaped for use as a small hammerstone. Nice find!

The wear on the ends tells it was made by impacts to other stone with a forceful blow, JMO I think it is small hammer stone/flint knapping tool. pecking stone have a much more even surface, Cool find
