Is this a rev war period button? it's huge... New to land detecting

I'm mostly a wreck diver but I played around for a few minutes with my new tiger shark near my house and Found this button by a creek.

Is it Rev war era? It was crusted up to the point I couldn't see anything on it till I cleaned it up.

I might have some beginners luck going here. :)

Probably shouldn't have hit the back of the button with the wire brush huh?

Your button is called a "dandy" button!

ANYTHING you find, PLEASE - don't ever hit it with a wire brush. Someone in this forum can tell you or give you options of what to clean something with, without causing damage or taking away any value. I have learned alot by posts and other members. Above all- have patience with your finds. Sometimes it takes days or even weeks to clean a find up correctly. I really don't see much harm done with this , as it is an old button, and collectable, but I personally have a few like it myself. Looks like late 18th early 19th century. HH Todd

I had one person local tell me they believed it was a rev war era civilian flat button. Is it later?

Re: Is this a rev war period button? it's huge... New to land detecting

It is a nice late 1700's flat colonial era button, not necessarily Rev War era, more likely post Rev War, but in the 1780-1790's range. If no backmark is on it which I doubt, than most likley pre 1796.

I've looked after cleaning in warm peroxide but can't find any sort of back mark.
