Found this yesterday in vt. It was in a field that had been plowed last year. Looks like a face but in very bad shape. What can I do to clean it? Anything?

Its hard to see any details in the pic but I'd bet its not a token, but a large copper. They'd wear coins as jewelry.... I never heard of wearing a token, but I'm no expert. I found many large cents/ state coppers that have been holed. Can you see anything on it? Funny, a few months ago I found a holed Vermont copper. Good luck.

It looks like there is a face on one side but its very corroded, or rusted. Not sure it's copper. Thanks for the help :-)

So in the what is it forum recon digger came up with this...

Pretty cool. Except for the dang hole! I guess people used to wear them as jewelry. Now I need to figure out if it can be cleaned up any better.......
Thanks again :-)

Oh wait you said they wear them as jewelry. My bad ;-)

Haha I thought I saw the matron head in the original pic but I wasn't sure. It probably is as clean as it will get. Nice find, I like the holed ones.....someone took the time to work on that coin and maybe gave it as a gift.

So where did you find your vt copper? Do you live in vt? I'm in Randolph vt

Nope, found it around my house in Northeast Ct.

Texas thinks they are the only "country" state.....haha, nope Vermont too!....and they minted their own coinage.
