✅ SOLVED Is this an actual spiral whatzis?

I found this in the chimney area of an 1890's farmhouse foundation that's been used as a junk pile. It seems to be copper with a brass fitting that says Kretzer. The fitting has what looks like 3/8 pipe thread. Some kind of heat exchanger maybe?
