I looked for 2 hours this afternoon and found this. Is it an adze?

My thoughts are that it is a pre-form. I know (at least I think) that you are focusing on the back of the blade. The backs and fronts have to be thinned down first and then the center section. You thin the center of a point first and that makes for a week spot.

JMHO

The piece certainly has the outline of preform. A side view of the object would be useful.

If it were an adze, you might expect to see some evidence of use on the bit such as hinge fractures. Angle of the bit might be ~60 degrees to a worn ~80 degrees. Here's an 'Aucilla adze' from Florida:

Here is a side view.

With the wavy reduction like you are showing, preform comes to mind. Still a nice piece I like finding those.

Could be a small adze if it's flat on bottom nice piece whatever it is

Americus - looks like a flint Adze to me or a flint celt. Very cool.

That looks like an adze with flat side, and the beveled edge on the one end. Awesome Find! :icon_thumleft:

Americus here's four adzes

.The first two are flint adzes from Illinois. The last are hard stone from maine

If it were bigger, that would be more like a hoe or digging tool in the plains village farmer era in southwest Oklahoma.

JMO from what I see it is an adzes, because it has the beveled blade on the end, a perform would not have an edge that high of center and a celt the blade is more centered. It's a great find:notworthy:

After looking at it it is well defined on all sides. I found a preform the other day and it isnt complete on all sides. Would of been a nice one if mine was finished.
