gypsyheart, ?Thanks for posting these examples. I found it in the surf at a location near Vero Beach that is supposed to be an ancient Ais Indian village. I thought it was a shell. If I look closely I can see fibers. I think it could be a worn pottery shard. If I ever get back to that beach, I will look for more.
CaptZ, Mine is not copper. It's not a metal. It looks like a piece of shell. Are your's copper pieces; or copper colored? Very interesting. I wonder if these markings are made by hand.

Copper pieces. I just thought the markings looked similar.
CaptZ, They do look very similar. I guess this is some kind of Ais Indian art. Or maybe an impression made by a casting. The Ais Indians salvaged Spanish metals and reworked them for fit their purpose. I would be interested in hearing the story on your find. Was it on the beach? Too bad it wasn't gold. ;)

Copper piece

If I am not mistaken, the copper piece may be a piece of WW2 bomb shrapnel. I find these peices all the time here in Munich. We got bombed really bad in WW2. Unfortunately I don'thave a pic, because they land in the trash right away. The signals they give are extremely "good" and come up at around positive 80 on my Whites Eagle on a scale of 0 to 95.

I've found a ton of pottery shards here recently, but none that were stamped with any pattern.I'm certain it's all Ais pottery.I have found alot of checkered stamped pottery, but it was all on the Gulf coast. It's hard to tell from the pic,but almost all the shards I find no matter what size are slightly concave and very smooth on the inside. Here's a pic of some of the the pottery I've taken home from a new site.HH!!NATE

Nice finds.
I also found a lot of worn bricks in the surf. I don't know if they are old.

The small piece I found with the makings is flat. It looks like a shell. I wonder if there is a type of seashell with the same markings?

I wouldn't suggest trying it,but pottery is also easy to break.I have picked up pieces before and snapped them.I somtimes have a bad habit of doing that to check the material.Like I said though,It's a really bad habit as I'm sure you know.If that is a shell you have it could also have been deliberatly marked like that. The Ais were known for alot of shell jewelry too.As far as the bricks. The ones I've found on the WWII beach are nothing like modern bricks. They look kinda like they were made of shell or coquina. If they are the same, the research I did on the WWII beach here, was a training ground in 1943-1946.GL!!HH!! Captain Z. post

I'm not sure about the piece on the bottom, but I've found several pieces myself with the same markings as the one on the top. In some places they're so plentiful that you can't find anything else! On the other hand, I've found that the local natives will exchange goods and services for them, although at a ruinous exchange rate. They also tend to frown if you bring them too many at one time.

;D It's a reply to Captain Z's post, the one with the copper piece featuring an effigy of a bearded man on the top. ?;D

Here's a scanned copy of the clay pottery I found. 2"x 1 1/2" Hopefully you can make out the "basket weaving" in it. Very similar to the 2nd picture posted by Gypsyheart. This piece is the only one found with this weaving. I wish I could get a better picture.
