Last Wednesday I took a little time to hunt an area along the way in this sage country of Colorado. The ground in areas is littered with sharp shards of quartzite flakes of white to brown in color and I'll find spots where I could gather a handful of shards in a matter of minutes. This little item is 2-5/16" by 1-3/16" and has a beveled edge all around the perimeter like a blade of some kind?. I have also never found any of the better materiel stuff such as the jasper, obsidian or chalcedony quartz, until this day when I did find a piece of tan jasper material close to where I found this item. I also did find an arrowhead some time ago made of this same quartzite about a mile away from where I found this thing.

she is a beauty!

One with penny looks good, left hand looks natural. Just FYI, it always helps to identify if have good clear pictures of both sides, front and back so to speak and close up of edges.....

10-4 more pictures needed...Indeed the 1st pic is all either remnants of flint napping or just broken natural rock and I chuck those away. I also a long time ago found this rock in this same area that has this cupped center, but I can't say it's really anything by man or natural?, so I just kept it as a curiosity item. I can't find the quartzite arrowhead I also found in this area. It's made of the same material as this blade looking dealeo I found this last week, but it's someplace around here.

I believe that your item in question is a preform. I would suggest that you continue to look in the area.

Lets see what is behind door # 3, :)

It's all stuff I found along the Arkansas river by Buena Vista, Colorado. I made a wall hanger out of it all. The stone slab I found in the same area in pieces amongst an alluvium of river rocks that were left by an ancient river channel. I think it was used to shape the river rocks into axes maybe? It is a type of sandstone that from an area further south of where I found it. It's concave and smooth, in the center on both sides, more so on the side I glued the arrowheads on. I don't hang it up anymore, but maybe I should again?.

This is everything I kept from hunting the area last Wednesday as something with a slight possibility.

Those are some very nice finds tamrock. Your large flat stone is actually an artifact as well. That is a Metate and a very nice large one. Great finds all!!

You have a real nice collection. I wish I could find artifacts as nice in my area.

Thanks, Peaches, but I hardly ever find undamaged stuff out here. Looking for anything is what I treasure most about this activity. I went out this morning and found absolutely nothing, but the cool early morning breeze on a hill was worth just as much as finding someone.

1/2 or more of my trips are nothing but just a long walk. But it sure is relaxing
