This is from a creek bank dump, although, I'm thinking maybe not a dump, but a flooded homestead because it seems to be household debris. However it's also in a field with old(1920's) oil field activity on a large scale. So when I picked it up to put in Buckshot's packpack, he threw it down and said it might be dangerous. I picked it back up, and got him to relent to carrying it. When I got it home and showed my husband, who works in the oilfield, he said it might be dangerous, and banished to outside the house. So, what is it?
Seems to be graphite to me, look at the last picture, you can "draw" with it, but it doesn't come off on your hands. It has a metallic ring when you gently tap it against something. The most intreguing thing, is it seems to be hollow. Buckshot said for God's sake don't try to break it open!
Radioactive core sample? Stick of nitroglycerine? Chemical warfare container? Just a graphite shaft of some kind?
If it is dangerous, I want to dispose of it correctly, not just throw it away, we've proven someone will find it and pick it up.
So, how often do you guys find dangerous stuff, and what is that stuff usually?
Thanks for looking,
ng
