This weekend I went through my second box of halves. 95% were 2000 and the other 5% were 1998. All were in pretty good shape. It was painful to have to sort the box again knowing that each new roll would be another zero, but I worked through each roll anyway.

Anyway, my question has to do with dumping. I rerolled all the halves and was planning to bring the entire box back to my dump bank. Does this seem reasonable, or should I take them out of the box? should I even drop $500 all in one place? Just wondering what you all think.

My opinion, as long as you don't return where you bought.
The dump bank will either sell the rolls to other customers, or ship them out.

And if you are really lucky, the Brinks/Loomis processing facility will be really lazy and re-pack the re-rolled dumps and ship them back out. I picked up 6k the other day and as I watched the head teller load up the dolly, I saw the clear plastic tape sealing the boxes instead of the normal brown packing tape. 6k of re-rolled dumps.

My local bank that I buy cents, nickles and dimes from will not order halves for me. They will however accept them in bags of 1k so they can ship them back.

My cents, Nickles and dimes I take to a bank in the next town to remove them from circulation of my buy bank so that hopefully I dont look over the same coin for a long time. I do not reroll, I turn in a Crown Royal bag full of sorted, loose change so they can dump it into the counter.

I think my main question had to do with whether bringing them back in an original box might annoy the tellers. I'm trying to be a good citizen and not ruin this for myself or anyone else.

Personally I wouldn't. Not that it really it matters. I did this once with dimes and got questioned over it

I re roll my halves and dump them at my CU adjacent to my work site. Sometimes a $500 box, sometimes $300-$400 worth.

I use the boxes because it makes handling the rolls a lot easier. Tellers can count them faster too, I deposit $1000 at a time. So far no problems or dirty looks. I've even asked at a couple dump banks if $1000 dumps are okay and they have all said "no problem".

Ask your dump bank what they prefer. Back when I was re-rolling some dumps, my dump bank for rolls wanted me to bring in at least $1000 at a time so they could ship them out immediately. I thought I was being nice by only bringing them $200-$300 at a time. Turns out, they had to have $1000 minimum to ship them out, and liked me much better once I started dumping larger amounts.

I personally never used the empty box to carry the re-rolls. It probably wouldn't happen, but you hear about people getting re-sealed boxes of rolled dumps occasionally. I didn't want to basically hand them all the ammunition they needed to do that to me...or anyone else for that matter.

... It probably wouldn't happen, but you hear about people getting re-sealed boxes of rolled dumps occasionally. I didn't want to basically hand them all the ammunition they needed to do that to me...or anyone else for that matter.

one of the branch banks of my main dump bank got a bit miffed at a whole box of dimes still in the fed wrappers, said you didnt even look at these... now always loose. Its just a matter of being upfront with the bank telling them what you want to do( you're a coin collector), ask what works best for them and then follow what they want.

FYI:

Your dump bank IS your pick up bank just another branch of it.

This means that you will greatly increase your changes of searching through the same coins again.

I'd suggest finding a differeng bank that does not use the same coin providers.

If your bank uses brinks try to find a bank that uses lumis or garda. Use 1 as pick up and 1 as a dump.

You know BU OBW rolls for year 2000 get a premium on the market. But since it was a mixed box, I guess they're not worth selling since you already opened them. I had a few rolls I saved from long ago and someone did buy them from me for around $16 per roll. Still have a few rolls left. I don't think NIFC's do since anyone can order those from the mint. 1998's don't due to higher mintages. Know your coins. I would love to get another box of all new 2000-D's. Key is that it has to all be one year not mixed. Preferably NF String box. It's been 10 years since I last got one. I recall debating keeping the box or not. I've sold rolls of them throughout the years before for around $14 per roll. They've gone up since. 2001-D's suck since the mint sold them openly and so are not hard to find. They don't sell for any real premium. Funny everyone was jumping about dumping them right away.

You've probably already dumped them by now. LOL Greysheet or coin dealer newsletter is a good guide.

Nice to know it is not just me. Last week I got a box of halves that had been searched and rerolled. Each roll had been placed with the rerolled end on the bottom, and the box itself resealed.

I am personally dumping in another state, or even two when the opportunity arises. I use both banks and casinos. I was told the other day, however, that one casino will not accept halves any more because their delivery service charges them to count and reroll them now. I'm guessing there is a CRH'er in the local area who used them extensively as a dump location for them to be complaining. Otherwise the only other place with a restriction on what they'll take is a little Indian casino set well off the beaten path from my usual haunts that will not take either dimes or cents.

Thanks for the info. The 2000 coins I had looked to have been aroudn the block a few times. Some still looked quite nice to my untrained eye, but I suspect that a coin collector would value them at $0.50 or less due to the difficulty in spending halves. haha.

Anyway, I appreciate it. I'm still looking for my first keeper. I get another box in 2 weeks!
