It almost looks carved at the top where the joint would be. Carved for some kind of tool? Probably a stretch but thought I'd check.

Rodents of all kinds gnaw on bones, including rats, mice and other critters for calcium. Someone might have wanted a snack! Sometimes bones also start to deteriorate on their own and become more "porous" appearing. This might be the case. Cool you posted this. 😁
 
Looks to be a cattle bone to me.
