What type of rock or soil did it come out of? It might be calcite or quarts growing in an Iron ore nodule. Just a guess.

Thanks. I thought iron ore and quartz but that maxed out my knowledge base... I'll look up nodules
Thanks again

I couldn't find anything similar to it online. The rock was found in south Carolina... Clay.

Any of those hints of green appear to be part of the rock or could it be algae?

AMorgan- I was able to zoom into the picture and it's actually plants/foliage

I can try to take some better pictures if that would help. To me, it looks like it is a slice of some kind of vein...a cross-section. Please forgive my lack of proper terminology.

Very cool rock(s)! I love the way the quartz has invaded the iron- very interesting ;) Yakker

Interesting crystal growth on the exterior with a solid center~ I've a feeling its part of a larger nodule that's probably broken up and you just found the tough part of the nodule. If conditions are right such nodules can form in clays much like geodes only yours seems to have formed from the center out :) Lobster rock indeed. Hehh
