I noticed red flame plumes in this agatized petrified wood and I've never seen it before and I tried searching online to find something that matched and I was unsuccessful, curious if anyone knows what location it may have came from and is it very rare, it's part of the small old stock collection I recently acquired and nothing was really labeled. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.
Steve.

Nothing super special about it. Looks nice as a specimen. Other than that, I would not be interested.

From my perspective, that of a former lapidary, a rock does not hold significant value until it is cut, shaped, and polished into something attractive and easily marketable. Yours rock is full of cracks that would make a trip through the saw an exercise in futility, since portions of your rock would likely shatter.

Since there are dozens, if not hundreds, of locations across the US where similar agatized wood can be found, with additional hundreds of locations across the globe, saying where it came from, in an attempt to increase value or marketability would also be futile, since you do not have a specific origin.

It is still a very attractive specimen of agatized wood.

I have been out of the market for a while, and therefore can not put a value on it. Eight years ago, before the stroke and arthritis, I would have bought similar looking pieces of this size for about $0.50 per pound, and sold for about $1.00 per pound, if I had done nothing to improve value.

Contact a few local clubs and shops. Frequently a personal inspection can shed more light on a matter than a few pics on a chat room.

Time for more coffee.
