Equinox 800, AT Pro

All Treasure Hunting
There's a few really good youtube videos on setting up the 800 and just about everything else on them. Probably more Equinox vids on there than any other machine made. Just try to learn the menu layout then it's all easy from there.

If I was new I would not adjust anything at first, just use the factory settings until I got some time in on the machine

As far as hunting iron sites which program would you use?

Welcome to tnet from Niagara Falls. Congrats on the purchase of your new equinox. Great choice. Good luck.

Don't wory about iron at this point. Just use Park 1 out of the box at the default settings and get some swing hours in. Dig everything so you truly learn how the machine responds to junk and keepers. Focus on both the audio and the numbers, in time the audio will tell you more than the numbers ever can. Wirk on perfecting your oinoointing skills. See what the machine sounds like and how it behaves in all metal (no iron discrimination, one touch of the horseshoe button) on various targets. Use the quick start guidance ML provides:

Pair your wireless headphones.

Select Park 1

Noise Cancel

Ground Balance. (Optional unless your ground is highly mineralized)

Adjust sensitivity down to remove chatter if necessary (don't bother increasing it from the default at this point you will likely just be introducing noise without realizing it)

Swing Away. (Try test targets at first then go hunting in the field)

Have fun.

Ask Questions

Rinse

Repeat

Congrats on your new toy! Park1 is a great starting mode to understand the detector. When you note “old site with iron” are you referring to an old dwelling littered with nails and other bits of iron or are you out in the desert with natural iron in the soil? If you are at an old homesite don’t be afraid to turn the sensitivity all the way down to 15 help isolate the targets and greatly reduce the falsing and noise.

Don't make the mistake of trying to tweak the machine for a few weeks, at least. Use the factory presets, go S...L...O...W and dig it all, to see where the targets fall in. You'll get the hang of it pretty soon. Avoid nail pits at first if possible.

I will probably go look at a place the wagon trains to California stopped at to rest. Lots of iron on the ground and broken bottles. I believe it to be the last watering hole for a long way in one of our deserts. Plus there’s nuggets out that way.
