Hello. I'm new to the group. I'm from NC. I've just started metal detecting again after putting it all away in 1993. I'm looking forward to the adventure.

I found this item in a field about 6" below surface and I'm unsure what it is although it does look like a buckle. This area has been known to have Revolutionary and Civll War artifacts. Any ideas from anyone? Thanks.

1st - I noticed this was your very first post - so, Welcome Aboard! Take a look at Sub-Forums: North Carolina for information (i.e., clubs, etc.) directly related to your state.

2nd - Until a member pipes in - I pulled these from other TN threads...

Welcome to Tnet. You're off to a good start. Size ref would help a lot but I would say late 1800's ?

Tony in SC,
Here's a photo of the buckle with a scale showing the longer length of approximately 2". The width across the bar in the middle is approximately 1-1/2".
Thank you.

That type of buckle was also common on knapsacks, cartridge boxes, etc. during the Civil War.
