It doesn't get any better than this!!!

Lately I have been seeing photographers in my region taking what seemed like random snapshots. I noticed they were walking up and down the streets taking multiple pictures of every address.

Now I know why! Look at the views you can get with the "Street View" option of Google Maps (http://maps.google.com/) It is only available in certain area, but it allows you to pan and view from different elevations.

Below is a screen capture of a historic house in my neighborhood.

I have already used this to identify some new sites in my area. I will report back with my finds!.

I noticed this about 2 months ago. It makes finding an address easier and allows people to view a home they were thinking about purchasing before they physically drive out to the property. The picture of my house has my son standing in the driveway looking at the camera.

That is pretty cool Neil! I had noticed a different view but didnt' realize you could get that close.

I have checked this out before. When I type in my addy, my neighbors house shows up.

Google Street view is not done by photographers on foot, that must have been something else, or realitors/assessors/etc. They have an entire fleet of special cars with a special 360 degree camera mounted on a pole on the roof. That was it can drive and shoot digital footage at a high rate of speed. Here is what a few of the cars look like:

Yes, that is a cool new feature on Google!
I started using it myself, and it saves a lot of time driving around to scout
out promising sites. It has already save me a lot of gas money, found
good sites to go to, and helped me scratch some off the list.

Trouble is, often when I use the scan button to pan around,
it crashes my computer. :P
