It isn't pretty, but it's still Spanish silver .....

It was great to see my buddy George swing by my neck of the woods on the way back home from a road trip, and he didn't need much prodding .... haha! And we took advantage by getting out for a hunt thanks to my bud Joey who was able to get us back into the site where I dug the Lord Baltimore sixpence a little over a year ago, and we were all pumped to get out and start swinging in the nicely cut bean field on a cool, breezy day. We were really hoping for ole George to get his coil over one of those nice 1600s spectacle buckles that have been previously recovered here, but that was not to be. I spent a lot of time roaming all over the huge field trying to cover some areas I hadn't been into before (almost 9 miles per my FitBit watch), and eventually came across a remote area where I started seeing scattered brick. After digging another of those pesky lead balls, I finally got a nice signal that had a chance to be a button or coin, and soon I was seeing a thin silver edge in the dirt clod. I knew right away it wasn't going to be one of Mr. Baltimore's coins, and sure enough it was one of those slick late 1700s half reales. But I was very happy with that find as this has been a very slow season so far. Other than that I only dug a few buttons, musketballs and lead blobs, and a couple other odds and ends. But that was OK it ended up being a stellar day spent with good friends, and we all had a blast.

Glad to see that found at least one shiny coin!

That George is something else, huh?

Best of luck to you. I am certain that the old coins will start to appear in your pouch soon.

Good find. I know Vino is dragging. Wonder if he'll sleep for 2 days after 2 days of driving and miles of walking.

ANY Spanish silver is better than NO Spanish silver I say. :)

Congrats on the silver Bill. You were due. Sounds like a fun hunt with some good camaraderie.

Glad you were able to get George out in the field Bill. Might be his last hunt for a while the way the weather is looking. Congrats on adding to your Spanish totals as well. I like the little buckle too.

Nice Spanish Silver Bill. I'm happy to hear that spot is still producing couple finds.

Is that a Cherub faced sword belt hook? Not a design I've seen on these, so maybe something else?

Looks like a successful hunt with some great friends. 9 miles is insane Bill! I'll swing for 4 miles in 6 hours and I'm beat.... of course a lot of that time is spent digging up iron. ha Glad you all had some fun, and although windy, at least a little warm for this time of year. Temps in CT this week are frigid and back home doesn't look any better... but unless the ground is frozen, I'll toss some handwarmers in my gloves and try to make it out soon. I really like that buckle you dug and you never can go wrong with spanish silver.... it looks like its the older milled pillar type too from mid 1700's maybe?

What else could you ask for than sharing your passion with other friends who enjoy the same. The relics and silver are just icing on the cake. Congrats on silver, silver always adds to the fun and gives you some bragging rights with the group you hunted with.

Leave it to you to pull the only coin. Lol
Thanks so much for inviting me down.
I had a blast. It was so exciting to be on that site. Every repeatable signal was a rise in the blood pressure.
Boy you sure can cover some ground!!

Ill take it in any form it comes, Congrats

Nice buckle, Bill. One of my fav things to find.

Great looking buckle, and well done on the silver.

It kind of looks like one but not sure. Here's a couple more pics for clarity. Let me know what you think.

Doing all that walking meant I did very little digging, but every time I looked up you had your shovel in the ground:laughing7:. With as many targets as you dug it's hard to believe you didn't find one of those 17th century buckles you've been talking about. Oh well, there's always next time. Great to see you again George, and look forward to the next time ....

Slick or not it's still Spanish silver and awesome! I would have been doing the dance!
