I scratched my very first Indian Head penny. It was at 2" at a virgin spot that my neighbor owns. He
just bought this 1925 house. In Arizona that's pretty old.

The coin is a 1907. There should be plenty more. I didn't have a lot of time but will be back.

I know there's a lot of you out there who have scratched valuable coins. Post em on here I want to see them. Maybe it will cheer me
up.

Thanks for looking fellow Tneter's!!

just a tip..make your cut about 2in back from where your actual target is... that way you won't nick another coin... I nicked my very first large cent... Ace 250 said 2in deep was actual 1/4in deep.. Hope you have better luck next time...

Hay Fish Stank,

Twenty five years ago I dug my first silver dollar
after they cleaned the muck out of a pond in the
old zoo.

I had a scratch going all the way accross it. Can't
remember the date. It was in the 1940's and silver.

I found other silver coins there also, but the one I
remember the most was that one I scratched.

That's the only silver dollar I've ever found.

LOL Yeah, I like you scratched my one and only IH find. I figured it was just another penny and drove my spade down hard and popped out a 1876 IH.
Joy quickly turned to agony when I saw shinny copper on the tails side. When I posted it on the forum no mention was made about the scratch. But it taught me a lesson.

You're fortunate to have found one, even if it is scratched.

Very nice find.

Nice IH. I hit one too. Since the scale on the 250 is in increments of 2's the 2inch is the minimum it could be. It could also be right under the sod.

fortunately.... your coins isnt valuable... money wise...... I have scratched a 1928 SLQ....... that made me ill... but it wasnt nice either..... almost got the 1843 half dime.... XLT said it was 4 inches.... was less than 1/2...but fortunately I didnt get that one... I have been hunting 17 yrs and still will occasionally nick one.....a bullseye pinpointer will reduce the risk

What silver dollars were being minted in the 40's? :icon_scratch:

Ok to make you feel better....

If you look at the rim of the Florin you can see some significant gouges on the side of the coin. I did one and Baldinboy did the other.

Do you feel better now???

beeeeeeebusted :o

sorry to about the IH.....but it was fun to find right!

Yah. I wasn't expected to find that IH. Oldest I've ever dug was a 46 dime. But now every coin I dig from that yard I
expect to be old. Hopefully it wasn't the only old coin.

Hay af1733,

It was a long time ago I was guessing about the date.

I don't have any of my finds from back then.

Alcohol and a divorce shed me of all my worldly

possesions years ago.

I had an old Technatics back then and silver coins

were much easier to find.

If you found a twenty year old dime, it was silver.

Now, it has to be, what, 45 years old?

I think the silver dollar was one of those Peace

silver dollars.

Happy Hunting,

Tabdog
