I found this item on a civil war period river craft yesterday in north Mississippi with Callicles. I'm hoping someone can help me identify this piece. It has a copper sleeve. The piece that extends horizontal and has the 2 holes is made of iron. Since it came off the ship wreck site we feel it could be a piece off the ship's machinery. Just don't know.
I'll also post under the "Ship Wreck" forum with a picture of all our finds. Ship item angle 1.webpshipwreck item angle 2.webpshipwreck item angle 3.webp

A reduction flange?

Looks like a packing gland for a shaft, valve etc.
