It's Been A Long Time Comin' - 1798 Large Cent
Between the difficulty of finding hunting sites on Long Island, the double bypass I had on my leg last August, and this terrible winter, I hadn't found anything decent for just over two years, when I found a Jersey copper, and an 18th century 2 Reale size silver coin that is totally worn smooth. Anyway, today I hit a spot that's about 30 acres of public town park property. Within a half hour I came up with a 1798 large cent with a nice readable date. Thought I had found a great new spot to hunt. But after almost three hours, good signals were far and few behind, and those were just very old and small incidental brass or copper junk. Only other keeper was a early button with no markings. I guess the large cent was a random drop and this land was not farmed, due to the lack of buttons, buckles and other pieces of farm equipment.
