It's crusty and worn...

...but I'll take it! Haven't been finding may oldies lately so this was a welcome target. Nice to get back into the 1700s. Haven't got a date yet but I'll hit it with the HP and see what I see.

I don't usually keep iron nails but this one has no corrosion but is definitely old and hand wrought. It was well under some roots which may have something to do with the condition. Every other piece of iron I got from the same location was badly corroded.

Nice 1700's Irish you have there.
And the nail is beautiful! LOL I don't know what it is, but I really like the old nails. Maybe some day I'll figure out what to do with them!

I've never really thought too much about them but this one really stuck out. It's a rose head nail.

I wish all my targets would come out as good as that nail! Always nice to get a good old copper.

I'm still scratching around the site where I found the 3rd trade axe. I know that I've got it pretty much cleaned out but it's a huge field so I'm still looking for strays. The coin was actually found in a wooded area that the farmer just cleared to extend his pasture. He's clearing a lot more so that will give me somewhere to go...at least for a while.

Good that your at least geting out digging, I'd welcome those digs anyday, and good luck on the ID.
Big or small if the nails come out looking like that, they seem to shy towards keeper.
