It's official.... I'm SPECIAL
That's right, the breaking new in NJ is that I am now special... In what regard you ask
Well today I went to have my 86 Mercedes diesel inspected for next year. After handing over all the paperwork and license, the worker asked what year is this car. Once I said 1986, she told me I am exempt from future state inspections from the NJDOT.. Seems that all passenger diesels prior to 1996 are now exempt. All that is required is a self inspection
I know I keep my car maintained, now I have to worry about those that don't
At first I felt a bit of relief and asked the attendant for an exemption sticker. Guess what? The state doesn't have one of those to offer. Now I am getting a bit concerned because my car will either have
A- No window inspection sticker
B- Will be sporting an expired inspection sticker
Either will be a good reason to draw the attention of the local and state police. Now I go the the inspection station office and voice my concern about the possibility of being pulled over 10 miles. All they had was a copy of the new regulation, which I now carry in the car along with all the other papers. I asked why doesn't the NJDOT at least make an exemption sticker. All I got from this yokel was
My next move was to the county police department to voice this concern. I had the watch commander come out and I showed him the new regulations. I told him my concern wasn't only in being stopped every few miles, but I was also putting the officer who is stopping me at risk. The last thing officers want to make is a traffic stop; that's where many bad things happen. Besides, it has the potential of putting himself at risk just to see I am operating under the law. The watch commander agreed that I have a valid point and now I will have to take it up with the NJDOT
You know me well enough to know that I will follow through on this matter. As a matter of fact, I have no problem in telling the head of the NJDOT to clean out his desk, because I'll do his job starting next week
I wonder how many brain cells must be damaged before you can rise that high in state jobs
