I went hunting today and it started raining so I ran back to my truck and kicked this. I stopped and grabbed it before I got soaked.
What is it? Its square and heavy its 2.5 inches all sides. IDK hopefully somebody does. More to come later. I found some other things.
Thanks, rock

That rock looks like it has been naturally tumbled but has unusual marks and some iron deposits. Maybe something leftover from a camp site or a tool to produce a spark. I'm not sure what that is. Thanks for sharing! 8-)

I was thinking Hammer stone or a grinding stone cause it has a slight dimple on one side. I have never found a square stone where each side is 2.5 inches. I was hoping somebody would of found one like it before. TY BM

we have similar stones out on the coast used as net gauges, I don't know if you have much of a fishing culture where you found this.

Yeah we have fish traps in the area made by the Indians. Is that what you mean?

I don't think so but maybe...depends on how the traps worked. The net gauges were used when making and repairing nets to help size the holes. A lot of the fishing was done with trident looking spears during spawning but not all of it that's for sure. I have gauges, shuttles, sinkers and net anchors....fish was a big deal.

well thanks for trying to help. It is a big piece of Flint that I am sure of. If nothing else it will make a good paper weight. Has allot of patina on it so it might be natural. But I havent ever seen a natural shape like this for a piece of Flint and that is why I posted it. 2.5 inches on all faces.

Just a rock. However, you have a good eye for spottin the out of place or unusual. Keep that up, cause you'll probably make a banner find one day.

Thanks just cause it is a rock I can post some of the normal flint nodules I have found in the same field. I found these 2 the same day. When they were in the dirt the first thing I thought was ax or drilled piece till I picked them up. This is what they usually look like so maybe you can see why I thought the square one would be a different find.
