I've found a lot of stuff but....l

In 30 years of metal detecting this is my favorite find...A Colt Navy .36 Cap and Ball Revolver...it is unloaded and missing the charge bar...amazing the wooden pistol grips were still in it..

That is awesome.. I collect antique guns.. If only they could talk.. Thanks for sharing...

Truly amazing! I'm not quite sure what qualifies as a banner but it'd get my vote!

Super cool find

That's a reproduction pistol. I bought mine in 1978. Loads of fun to make your own pistol shot from scrap lead.

My .36 would go through one side of a 55 gallon oil drum and put a serious dent on the other side. I would put extra black powder but couldn't get it to penetrate both sides.

Nice find.

Hate to argue with you Mekong Mike I know its not fake...found 17 Half Dollars with it that dated 1854 to 1877...it was still in the the old holster,,,,,

Thats one of those finds that would take my breath away..Congrats..

Yeah definitely not a repo, great find.

so? all the rust is from tannic acid? not underground decomposition?
the charge bar missing is curious...especially if it was in a holster....too cool

Great find! The wooden grips was one of the first things that popped out in the picture - the whole is gun is amazing tho!

The loading lever was often removed on revolvers that were converted to fire cartridges. Those types of conversions were popular in the 1870's up into the 1890's. Many *but not all) conversions added a loading gate on the right side of the firearm.

you have my first banner nomination. Must have had a smile on your face for a week.
