Found this this morning at a friends house. The house was built in 1900 and I was around the dump site and this just dropped into the hole. No metal, it was just there when I was digging. Awesome find!

Cameos are normally made from shells or stone. Although ivory ones are not unheard of. Still a cool find.

Welcome to TNet!

I agree...it's an awesome find! It always pays to keep the eyes open for non-metallic goodies when digging. Welcome to TNet!

erbrousman,

Welcome to TreasureNet. I would need a much higher resolution picture of it to make an identification of ivory on it. What does the back look like? Does it look like it was mounted on something? If you look at it with at least 10X, if it is bone there will be many small pores left from when the bone had a blood supply. If it is relatively modern plastic/celuloid, you might see bubbles or mold marks from casting.
