Pirates were Thieves . in spite of the saying , I Can't imagine There really is much Honor or trust among Thieves. My guess he did Hide Small amounts at every Port he Left.
Just in case he found his way back in bad conditions. and a Ground Bank in his Homeland.
Maybe even one with bribe Money.
I suppose it depends on his Thinking of Course.
Maybe he Thought everyone was Terrified to cross him
