Hi,
I was looking for a place to detect here in this snow smothered town, there were only a few bare spots near trees. I said what the heck. I drove forty minutes south where there was no snow. The coins were flying! In three and a half hours pulled out 178 coins, that included 56 quarters,52 dimes, four nickels and 68 cents, nothing old, but it was a great start to the year,I also found a copper ring.
Whats the greatest number of coins you have ever found on January first?, that was probably the most for me. Whats the oldest you have found on that day? I found a 1900 Indian head on the first once and a 1897 barber quarter on the third. The oldest coin ever in January was a 1863 Netherlands one gulden. Good hunting and have a great year....Kane 23

That's a nice haul! I don't count the number of coins I find, just what they total so I can't answer your question!

Ummmm...I think you mean minutes. Still pretty incredible. What kind of sight was this??

Awesome number of coins, but what's up with the nickels? Gotta turn that descrimination down!

Chuck,
I only looked for nickels for about 20 minutes, then I turned up the discrimination. If I'm trying to find a lot of money I tune out the nickels and zinc penny's. On my best single day ever(546 coins) I probably only found 4 or 5 nickels. Vwayne, your right minutes not seconds, unless they were in a pile, seconds wouuld be awful tough. HH Kane 23

Kane23,

I'd love to here more about your methods and how you approach a site. Are you probing and popping the coins or actually digging plugs? Do you grid the area or just follow your instincts? You were saying you look for nickels and then other coins. Is this just a quick sweep to see what the area holds or are you eliminating those first. Thanks for any help. I am an old dog that can learn new tricks!

Take care

congrats man! I love seeing these type of posts...... my hope is that we will see more of these types of posts in the future.. many TNET members live in places where really cool old old things just arent gunna happen... most of us will never find a gold coin........ but all of us can go for shear number of rescued coins........ all of us appreciate and applaud digging that many coins in one hunt..... getting to 100 in one day here in rural ohio takes a little luck and a whole lot of determination............ congrats on all the fine digs man!

Minton 7,
Thanks for the compliments, I appreciate it. I have a couple of friends in Ohio who do well especially down by the large rivers,i hope you soon find 300 coins in a day....Kane23

Well it sure was better than staying in the snow, and it paid for the gas also, figured out to $20. But I guess the price of gas has dropped in price quite a bit... I have never found so many in one period, but of course I have never really searched for modern coins (excluding the beaches in the few hot summer months, but that was years ago now)... Great finds!

What the heck you said. Way To Cool.

Here's to your 01/01/09 cladventure!

Gotta wait until spring carnie season before the serious clad chasing happens around here.

Way to go!
You sure found a sweet spot. I haven't even dug that many pulltabs in one day, let alone coins. ;D
Take Care!
