Yes, it was identified as a Japanese Navy mortar round from WWII (missing its fins). Blast radius 500 feet. Here's a better picture of it from another source:

It's believed that the people who formerly owned the property used that area of land as a scrap heap.

My guess some vets bring back then buried to get rid of it as the wife said. But the ballon bomb theory is possible
