Here's a knife I obtained at Auction. It was a box filled with misc items. When I got it home and started digging threw it, I found this at the bottom of the box. Can anyone help me determine the age, authenticity and value? Assuming the "Japa" stands for Japan.....I'm currently searching for antique Japanese knives, but have yet to find something similiar to this one. It looks like this one could have been handmade? The guard and pummel look to be brass, handle is leather wrapped w/metal inserts and it weighs 10.2 oz.

I own this exact knife. I bought it at an estate sell about 15 years ago. I was told it was made in the late 60's early 70's. Mine has a leather scabbard No name it is a Heavy well made knife. I believe the blade was made out of a file, I paid 20.00 for mine and this is the only other one I have seen. so Far!!

That type of handle is called "stacked leather".
Thanks Mick. I'm looking into the age of this knife and hopefully I'll find more info.

Cool! I paid $15 bucks for the whole box of items that had mahogany handcarved Asian Rice Farmers/Fishermen in it. Let's see if we can find some additional info on this one. Does your's look like it's been handmade?

Probably dates to the 1950s, and is a "rat tail" stacked leather camping knife that has seen a lot of wear. Probably SEKI steel from Japan, not very valuable $10-$20 (hundreds of thousands made).

Yes it looks like it was hand made. But not by one of the best makers. or some one learning the craft!

Aw shucks...LOL. I guess we can say bust then. I know little about knives, so thought I'd put it out there to see. Searching "Seki" opened alot more info on the blade/knives. Thanks for your info, I appreciate it!

Looks like a Jap copy of a "MARVEL" One of the most popular belt knife designs of all time.

Used to have one almost identical to that in the 70's & 80's. They are good, sturdy knives; great for camping or working outside with.
