Tried a new spot for an hour.
Lots of coal everywhere. Found an old Levis Wobble Button and this neat Jenny Lind Button. Wasn't very deep, 3-4" and looks pretty new. Couldn't find much on it so any info would be appreciated.

I remember a discussion about these buttons on here a couple of years ago . Have you done any online research on it yet ? Very nice find ! I think it may be pretty rare !

One thing is certain , your Jenny Lind button is in amazing condition ! the one in the link was a bit damaged - I really am hoping some of the button experts see this and can help with rarity and value in this excellent condition - Nice Find !

Nice find Rick!

Looks like mine wasn't guilted and yours was. Superb find! Only the second I've ever seen dug, mine was in the Low country of South Carolina. Guess these buttons traveled aways! Huge congrats on yours! What a beautiful piece of history!!! Jenny Lind was a very famous singer in the 1850s in America.

Yours would have been Gilt as well, nearly ALL buttons of this period were. Its just all come off, not that unusual.

Great gilt on that button. A fine example!

Weird how that happened especially since the soil was so sandy and kind to the buttons here. Got one nearby at the same site which was loaded with gilt.

I have to say - so what...
Yours did once have gilt...

Are you serious?

How do you know? Just cause it's from the 1850s means it had gold guilting on it? As if brass wasn't shiny?!?!?!

Brass is only shiny when new or relatively new.....gilt was popular on that era buttons because it maintained its shinyness and was good for a contrast surface.

As much as I would like to agree with Village Nut. The only pics I could find, both on Pinterest and one with a Lind relatives comments were brass. Seems I found the odd one.
