Ventured out today to a place about 1/2 from the village where i dug my last pit. I know there was a homeplace here because this is the place i haven't been back to due to a bad memory of this place. After this site was clearcut about 15-20 years ago i stumbled upon a small hole someone had dug that morning. You could still see the imprint in the bottom of the hole of the 3 legged cast iron pot that had been resting there for who knows how long. I was metal detecting that morning and someone beat me to the goods. I was devastated to say the least. Anyway, thats another story. ...after about 2 hours of probing i hit some debris about 3 ft down. Boy that felt really good. I dug a test hole here.

I saw the bottom of a broken plate staring at me.

And a brick.

Well after much enthusiasm and dirt flying in all directions, i found myself standing in a shallow pit that after digging completely measured 4'x 5' x about 3 1/2 feet deep. Only 2 broken bottles and a lot of broken dishware.

There was good age to this glass.

Check out these halmarks.

Gonna put the cup back together. That hal-mark dates from 1850-60's. I am still missing a small piece of the rim but i still like it. Will post pictures after i'm done
