Just Born or should I say "hatched"
I went metal detecting this morning and things did not work out like I had hoped so my alternate plan was to check a few of the fields I hunted over the years and see if any were plowed. Most were not but my last field to check was, so I quickly pulled over and started to detect, last good find from this particular field was my one and only Indian Pestle lying on the surface!
The field was dry as punk, I was creating a dust cloud as I walked! But there amongst the dry dirt I spotted pieces of turtle egg shells. It appeared the plow dug up the eggs or they were hatching as they were dug up. Anyway, I turned my eyes to look for any babies and yes, I found one.
This little Eastern Box Turtle, about the size of a Quarter was covered in dust and sand particles and not sure how long he might have survived in that hot dry field. So, I "rescued" him and brought him home, made a terrarium up and now my 5 year old grandson is tickled pink!
Again, one of the side benefits of this hobby is you never know what you will find on any given day, it does not have to be a coin or button or piece of jewelry, it can be something like this or seeing a rare flower or bird. It sometimes is just rewarding "just getting outside". HH
