I've had it pretty easy with dumping the last 8 months. I was using a smaller local bank that has 17 branches with coin counters that took half dollars. I actually moved my main checking account to them along with a separate checking for dumping. I know all the main tellers and treat them very well. Most actually get dissapointed if I miss a dump; they love that I actually take the time to BS with them and bring goodies. I have always been upfront with them and everyone from the branch managers to the tellers knew I was a CRH. Well yesterday I received a call from the VP-Operations saying that she needed to have a talk with me. She says that I have successfully filled up their coin vault with halves and they now have to start shipping to the Fed district bank. This will cost them lots of money and it is not something they want to do. I'm not sure if this is actually true but maybe someone can chime in with some knowledge of this. She didn't directly say to stop dumping halves but I can take a hint. On to the next one I guess. :BangHead::BangHead: HH!

I've continually made the mistake of being overtly friendly, chatty, upfront, and almost apologetic when I dump. I bring goodies. I've been burned. The problem is the teller/vault manager and tellers aren't the people we need to be nice to. It's not even the bank manager. It's the managers in the corporate office that see expenses go up and then call the local managers to find out why. Of course, they tell them because its no big deal. Not like we are committing a crime. In turn, we get cut-off, limited, or a fee added for our dumps.

My next dump bank will be approached differently. I don't have it in me to be rude, but I'm not going to chat. I'm not going to tell them what I'm doing. I don't plan to look 'approachable' like I usually do but if they decide to ask, I'll say my grandfather kept all his savings in coin. It doesn't matter if they really believe it. The main idea is to not tell them what I'm doing but also not be rude and say 'nonya bidnass'. I believe my kindness has hurt me, especially with smaller banks where there corporate offices notice small changes in expenses. On the otherhand, bofa, ch@se, and other large banks are probably better served by being nice and chatty. If changes happen at a single location, it will probably be the direct result of a manger you have contact with.

Unfortunately these days it just takes one person to complain and management folds BRChiver. Maybe, just maybe it wasn't the bank teller's. You had a good run though...

This does not change anything but if you get a roll of coins from this bank what does it say on it. First Nat'l Bank of 17 Branches or Brinks, Loomis or a company like them. They would be one of the last bank in the country to actually be processing there own coins I would guess. I would find it hard to believe they are holding the coins in their vault but you could still be costing them money they do not want to spend and gave you this story as opposed to going into to details about how it is actually costing them money.

"Brinks, Loomis, or a company like them" don't pick up and transport extra coin out of the kindness of their hearts... The simple fact is CRH, especially high volume half-dollar CRH, costs banks money.

I would guess the bank kept holding the halves in their vault until they didn't have room, just so they didn't have to pay to ship them out somewhere. Many branches, especially the smaller ones, have very small vaults.

I see what you mean but that doesn't mean your niceness doesn't still go along way and that the tellers don't have any influence. It is up to the tellers/local manager to paint your story to the corporate guys who call, and that can go one of two ways
