Ok, so I took that advice and just went back, as it had been raining hard for hours, and found this in the same washout area, within 5 or 10 feet of where I found the two rocks in my last post. It appears to be made of a different type of rock, and I am not sure what it is, if anything. The edges look worked, but I don't know enough to tell a stone tool from a piece of flat rock. The rock is hard and sharp. The one thing that really makes me question it, is that towards the pointed end, it is thicker and curves down slightly. It is otherwise very thin. I have included photos of both sides, and a view on its side. What could this be? stone tool? Or nothing? Once again, there are no rocks in this area naturally so anything is suspicious to me florida rocks 048.webpflorida rocks 041.webpflorida rocks 043.webpflorida rocks 046.webp

Looks like a really nice example of a flake exhibiting a cone of percussion. The bulb is where the chert was struck when the flake was removed.

awesome thanks!

The two posters above are exactly right. I don't know you're background so I apologize if I'm too basic here but the artifact you found is as indicative of ancient occupation as is a whole projectile point. Keep hunting that area and you'll find more good artifacts.

Good luck and welcome to the site.

Well said Twitch.
... welcome and congratulations on finding that site.
You'll find more there.
A probe of some kind might work well for you there.. even a sturdy green branch...poke..scrape..flip ..that kind of thing.

oh i will. Thank you all for your help and explanations. I was wondering when i would find something new to become obsessed with.

i have been to this area many times before, and found 20+ similar things to this, but they werent straight so I tossed them out thinking they were just rocks that almost looked like points

Accidental double post

Aahhrr.. I bet that doesn't happen again.
I also bet you're hooked.
It's very addictive.
Time not spent hunting is a good time to familiarize yourself with the range of artifacts found in your area.
