Using this dredge for coins sucks, no pun iintended. Here in Michigan if you show up at a lake or river with a dredge and someone reports you to the DNR or police, you are in deep ____. A permit is needed, and you must restore the bottom to what it was before if you ever get the permit. This isn't counting the damage to fish habatat. To try to use it at a swim beach is plain stupid as it will cloud up the water and make the bottom unfirm. Plus, your wasting time sucking yards of material that has no targets. But you will find thngs for sure but it is more like work this way. If you are doing it thinking your going to make a profit and pay for the machine, your better off with a part time job.
To use it to clean out boat wells of muck still requires a permit and restrictions and I found it a waste of money, but fun to think about using.

Good Luck,

The old Gent that sold me my detector also sales dredges, pans ect. He uses an under water detector and sucks up every target he gets and it goes into a 1/4 " mesh basket where his son pulls out the goodies and the trash, rocks or what ever. He does not just randomly suck up dirt hoping that he might get a target therefore not damageing the bottom and clouding up the water. He showed me the ticket from where he sold all the scrap gold in S.C. and he made $9500.00 and that was for two seasons of dredging.I think its a damn good idea so go for it.
