I got back out this morning to a place that has been giving up some old coins. I was working an area probably 20x20 where I found an 1888 Indian head and a 1864 2 cent piece earlier in the week. I got a one way 22-25 vid on the equinox 800 and I decided to dig and I'm glad I did. Out popped an 1870 Indian head penny.

Let me know what you guys think the condition and the grade might be just curious.

Thanks Kris

Good question! My coppers don't clean up that nicely with olive oil.

I always clean coppers up with olive oil, some turn out way better than others. This is by far the best out come I ever had cleaning a copper. And as you can see in the pictures the soil on the coin was clay so I'm sure that had a lot to do with the out come of the coin.

And the soil mineralization is super mild in my area.

Check out the PCGS App called "Photograde" at the following url:

Probably help you narrow it down some as far as grading it...or at least get it in the ballpark...so to speak.
