Ah, thunderstorms. When they lurk, I am a nervous sketch bag. I got a couple of hours in before the carnage began.

Old toy fireman's hat? It's lead, I think...

I'm not sure about this one. It's surrounded by some sort of glass. It feels more like plastic. Perhaps it had a picture on the inside? Looking at the back, it looks like it was a ring or a pin.

KG III Half Penny -- I'll try and get a date off of it, but it's not looking good.

Happy hunting!

The 2nd piece looks like an end-cap for a fluourescent bulb... there would have been 2 pins coming out the metal side that would go into the socket.

Glass domed Bridle rossett. For sure.
Got one just like it my second dig this year.

I see what you mean! Sometimes things aren't as complicated as they seem. I like your theory better than mine. :laughing7:

Rewind.

So it is old, Rick! hahaa..... They do look very similar.

Does your glass feel lightweight, also? How old would these bridle rosettes be?

I think it would be very hard to pin down a date, probably made the same for quite some time, you can probably still but them new.

Weight ?? seems like real glass to me.

And I have seen some with pictures inside.

Quick search, yep you can buy them new. (that's not to say yours isn't as old as the coin you found.

Glass rosette I would date to early 1800s

Definitely a glass domed bridle rosette and not part of a bulb LOL there would have been a squared U-shaped attachment on the back to mount it to the bridle. I believe the glass domed rosettes, especially the colorful ones date to the Victorian period and not the early 1800s (would be the latter 1800s). It's a nice find--I found one with an initial on it back this past winter. Also looks like you found a blow-hole button as well which may date to the early 1800s or so (the one with the two holes in the back). Overall a very nice array of finds!

Hello Gio,

Am I seeing an amethyst tint to the glass? If so, it would indicate the presence of manganese dioxide in the glass batch.

"The Venetians apparently discovered by the 15th century that manganese could be used to decolorize glass. Manganese became known as "glassmakers soap" due to the ability to "cleanse" or neutralize the effects of other impurities in the sand, particularly iron (Hunter 1950). Manganese dioxide induced colorless glass was, however, by far most commonly used from the 1880s to about the end of World War 1." Bottle Colors Page

Glass containing manganese, when exposed to the UV rays of the sun, will turn various shades of amethyst, over time.

I had a closer look at it. The glass seems clear, unfortunately. :(
