KG's and a LC, with buttons and a blow hole.

Had a great early morning hunt.

Got on a button streak at first with two tombac buttons... then a dome shaped button that I was hoping for a Civil War cuff button... but once I cleaned it, it appears to be my first blow hole button. Found a few flat buttons as well.

Then I got on a copper streak and pulled out two KG's. I'm blown away by the dates I'm seeing on them... 1719 and 1724, which are my oldest coins and oldest coppers now. Both the KG's were DEEP and below the plow line. Then I got a nice 1837 Large Cent.

I've been in a copper slump lately with the last 4 I've dug, being toasted beyond identification... So it was really nice to pull out some copper coins I could ID.

That's a lot of years between King George I and American large cents. Even at places we dig George II and III coppers we don't see many Geo. I.

I'm confused as well. Those are 100 years older than what I know the site dates to... It should be early to mid 1800's. Do you think those KG's were in circulation for 100 years or so? By that, I mean, would it be common in 1820, to have a 1720 coin in your pocket? If so, then I know how old this site is... if not, then this place is MUCH older than I thought!!

Very nice set of finds! I think the KG Is were in circulation for a long time and were mixed in with II and III in change. I look forward to seeing them cleaned especially the blow hole button. Do you know the time frame in which these where produced? Also it would help if you put your general region in your description so we know what country or what part of the country you are finding these things in.

Thanks Erik! Stuff this old is all new to me. My typical finds are mid 1800's and later. I know blow holes are old, but I don't know just how old... Suppose it could have been sewn on a jacket for 100+ years! I don't think I'm gonna clean those coins anymore. The KG's were rough.... I didn't even use water on them... I treated them like a relic and used a toothpick, dry, and once the dirt was removed, a little oil from my skin. Makes a nice contrast.

The blowhole is to the left of the LC. I flipped it over through the pictures so you can see both sides... And the two filled holes on the back.

Nice stuff ! Just found a kicka$$ place with the early KGs too .
It's true Ya jus do not see those KG I , KG II's , and blow hole buttons often, hitting that place hard may be in order !

This stuff is all new to me since I don't usually find stuff this old.. But I believe both the 1719 and 1724 are both King George I. And the blowhole... I am almost certain thats what it is... The button to the left of the LC... I only find flat buttons and newer, but it looks like all the blowhole button pictures I looked at. I can see two filled holes on either side of the shank. It was in such good condition I thought it was a more modern 2 piece button until I got home and washed off the back.

I really want a complete shoe buckle and, based on these finds, this site just might have one for me.

I have a feeling there may have been some activity at that site earlier than what you thought of what the history books say. It's pretty common for this to happen. If it was a good place to live at some point in history it was good before that. Not sure I've ever found a KG 1. Very impressive day and good job keeping quiet about your secret weapon. Very wise lol

Btw usually where blowhole buttons show up you're in a great spot to find lots of great early coins. There may be a few nice early silvers hiding there. Earlier than the others you found....now that you're getting down to the good stuff

Sometimes two small sites can overlap and seem like one.

Over here in Eastern Maryland I only find those George I's on super early sites. My last killer site from 1670-1740 didnt produce a single one.
