Killer buckle, and some nice coppers.

Rick and I got out today and our first goal was to find a farmers disc from his harrow machine. On the third field Rick yells out "I got it" he then goes on to find the spacer that goes with it, so find of the day goes to my buddy Rick.
Now for my finds, I started with a nice 1816 Brock token

and then to my amazement I get up another 1838 Stiver token,and it's also in good shape

I found one of those on my last hunt

Then the find of the day for me was a beautiful 3 inch long buckle, now I am not sure if this qualifies as a spectical buckle or not but I would sure like to have an idea of the age of it.
All guesses welcome,


And the rest of the gang, reins guides, ox knob, pewter spoon bowl and copper spoon a crusty copper and musket ball.

That's a very nice strap buckle. Probably worn by a soldier, and dates to the 1812 era if the reference i'm looking at is correct, and I believe it is.I'd sooner that than many of the early military buttons I find. Not common to find at all.

I think you'll be hard pressed to beat that the rest of the year. Definitely a keeper.

That is a very cool piece, in great condition.

The finds "Seem" a little sparce there, probably just because of it's size, and no particular "hot spot" ...yet. As we were only there about 90 minutes, and got a few things all old, I feel very certain there is a couple more really good finds there. Even the other half we barely scratched.

Thanks Bill, the finds didn't come fast but the quality was sure up there. I found it funny that the two lion heads were both facing the same direction but when IP said strap buckle then it clicked. This most likely would have been on a strap the came over the shoulder and to the waist belt.
We really though we would find an old colonial home site in this field but we didn't so we have to keep on searching.

That's a Fantastic find. usually broken, you beat the odds there.

A double-loop military belt fitment with moulded lion’s head decoration.
Fitments like this were in use on uniform from the Napoleonic period onward and were still in use on dress uniform in the early 20th century. Described as 'probably serving as a sabretache buckle', (a satchel suspended by straps from a cavalry officer's belt).
