Went to the thrift store last night. In the case I see this pen in a Parker box. Turns out it's a Shaffer model 440 and the 1/2 off color of the day is pink. Told the employee who opened the case to set it up at the hold area, because I'll take it. Then I go looking for other treasures throughout the store. I find this big pewter plate. 25 years at Nationwide. I see the little emblem attached and think, maybe that's a little gold there, as I have gotten gold this way before by putting the edge of a knife under these commemorative items before and tap the knife lightly with a small hammer. Surly they'd gift you a little bit of gold after 25 years. Not the case this time. It knocked off with one tap on the knife and I see 10K. AND 1/5 before it. That be a cheapskate on Nationwide IMO. I guess pewter has a scrap value of like 3 bucks a pound and the plate isn't even solid pewter, but instead a sheet of pewter layed over a steel bottom plate. Oh well had to be sure and it was only 4 bucks. With even that the pen is still a winner in my mind.
