Before this past weekend, the oldest coin I found was a 1929 Mercury dime. As of this past Sunday, I have crossed the 1700's threshold. I'm quite sure that I have found a King George III Half Penny. The reverse is toast, but the bust is visible. I put up some photos before cleaning, and one from after removing the corrosion. Please let me know if you agree or have an additional input. Thank you for your time.

You skipped a century! Congrats. Might still want to post the reverse, just in case.

Not Regal but looks to be a more common counterfiet of that period.

You did the same as me ~ skipped the 1800's and went to the 1700's. It wasn't long after though that they started coming up too. Hope it's the same for you!

I will try to get a better camera for higher quality photos, and I will post some pictures of the back as well. As for the regal comment, I personally don't mind either outcome. If it's genuine, then I'm obviously happy. But people were hung and put on display for using counterfeits of these specific coins, so if it is indeed a counterfeit, it's still a very interesting part of history. Not to mention this specific coins history, who's hands it touched, the trip it made over here, and how it was lost/dropped here in Massachusetts.

Here are some additional photos. Let me know what you guys think. Thank you.

NICE FIND ......

Very nice find,, I like your response to whether or not it is Regal. You have a good way of looking at things.

Counterfeit or not its an awesome find.

Nope, look more closely.
I wasn't stating/insinuating that it's regal. I was referring to the fact that the coin has been identified.

So you agree its counterfeit?
I personally don't know enough about these coins to believe one way or the other. Perhaps if you would elaborate on why you're so sure it is indeed a counterfeit, I could learn more.

OK, the clues are the poor quality of the metal. First one.
Second one would be to weigh it, let us know within 0.00g? This will confirm the above.
Thirdly look at the shadow of the head (for example) specially at the extreme edges that reach too far to the edge of the coin.

Thank you for the info. We have scales and calipers at work, so I will bring the coin in tomorrow and get some specs.
