Recently purchased a Korean War Vets footlocker. Mostly underwear; a pair of skivvies had a date of 1948. This shirt is stenciled BONE PICKER..

Driving me crazy has anybody seen this or anything similar??

Did you purchase the locker from Walker or one of his kin?
He was an enlisted draftee (designated by the first '5')
He came from the NE (Indiana, Kentucky, Md., Ohio, Penn. Va or WVa (designated by the first '2')
I'll guess the 311th refers to the 311th Signal Command (from 1944 to the present)

Would this be considered a 'brief' encounter?

I searched for this guy using name and/or service number for about an hour and found nothing. Not even a record in the national archives.

Also couldn't find a picture of a period white military T shirt with stenciling like that.

What am I missing with my research?

Ray R. Walker US52062859

I'm guessing "Bone Picker" was a nickname.

The USAF 311th Fighter-Bomber Squadron was reactivated and based in Taegu, South Korea during the Korean War, and "Bone Picker" sounds good for a call-sign. I still could not tie a Walker to it.

In one of the many letters my dad sent to my mom from Korea, he asked her to please send him some new underwear, because he was wearing the same pair for weeks. I guess fresh skivvies were in short supply. I'm thinking a "Bone Picker" is a person who retrieves good usable parts off of salvaged equipment :dontknow:
