L. and A. COMMISSARY TOKEN

My detecting buddy, Dan, just dug a token that says "L. and A. COMMISSARY " and has the number 5 with rays. Does anybody have any thoughts as to what L.and A. COMMISSARY is and where it might be? The token was found in Central Virginia.

Probably from a plantation store(commissary)… lots of plantations issued their own money after the Civil War..... the 5 and rays resembles a shield nickel, so possibly a 5cent token ….
