Well, it was off to an old neighborhood to do some sidewalk strip hunting. I first went North/South along the East side of the block. Got some keys, clad and a couple of wheaties. Took a short break and was deciding whether to do the West side of the same street or go down one of the East/West streets.

I opted for the East/West street and boy am I glad I did. Got a nice signal and by the time I was done, I had pulled a 1911D Barber dime, a 1939S Merc, a 1942D Merc and a 1929 Wheatie from the same hole. Then walking back along the edge of the street I got a super nice signal and out popped an undated Standing Liberty Quarter. The SL is a first for me :icon_sunny:

Other finds for the day included

5 House keys
9 Clad Quarters
4 Clad Dimes
2 Nickels
43 Cents
9 Wheat Cents. (7 are in the first picture then I found 2 more sorting through the "other" stuff.

Any type of approval needed with sidewalk strip hunting? Get questions from homeowners regularly?

Thanks in advance for any help to a newb.

I always wondered this myself, so I emailed the mayors office in my town in NW Ohio, they told me the strip of grass between the sidewalk and the street is owned by the city and was fine for me to metal detect. The homeowner maintains it but does NOT own it, it may vay from town to town, so best check it out before you go.

Here in Portland it is ok to hunt the strip as it's maintained by the home owner but owned by the city. In the area I'm currently working, I haven't had any problems with home owners. I got one kinda nasty look from a jogger, but I just smiled and he went on his way. It also helps that I am retired and am able to hunt this type of area during the week and in the middle of the day when there are less folks home.
