Hi all , Last week while working an area where miners cottages once stood i found this enamel badge in decaying slate of white surfacing. Powdery mix of pieces and soft powder. The badge dates from from 1933. First commercial radio station began in the area in 1931 and no all could afford a radio. Often starting with small groups gathering in community halls and church venues to listen to their favourite live programmes of the time. Formal club started in 1933 and 3BO ladies "Smile Club" had 250 members . By 1940 there were over 140 clubs across the rural Australia with about 150,000 listeners. Heres a pic of the first radio station staff 3BO in 1931 and the badge.
