First I went by an old building down town and found the very old shell casing. I don't know much about the age of it or what rifle it went to. Then headed to the base hoping to find a silver coin. I ended up with a 1959D dime and the first large silver for the year, a 1942D quarter. I have been finding some M16 blanks there also every now and then. Thanks for looking!

Your large brass casing appears to be a smaller gauge shotgun shell circa 1880's-1920's. Can you tell the numbers and letters on the headstamp? They are hard to read in the photo. Great finds, congrats! Subterranean

GTG on the silver and that many wheaties. I would check the dates on your wheaties. 5.56 blank is good for scrap. Looking forward to hearing about the casing. Well done!! :icon_thumleft:

I think it has a 1 or I, F , 8, and a o or 0. thanks for your interest.

Those M16 blank shell casings bring back alot of memories! Nice collection of finds! Looks like you are hunting an old military base?

History Hunter, Could the headstamp be " I F S C" ? This is an abbreviation for International Flare Signal Company. You may have the brass casing from an old signal flare. Would make sense if you are detecting near a military base. May be worth a look on line! Sub

smaller one seems to be a crimped front shot shell......nice finds

Yes a air base. The old larger shell casing came from in front of an old building down town that was built in 1936.

The large casing is an indian wars 45/70 case. It was made by Frankford arsenal (F) in January (1) 1880 (80) . Look up inside primed, or Benet primed (same thing) .45/70 and you will see what a loaded round looks like.
Cool find.

Congratulation!

I found a good link, just page down a bit. I think mine has an 80 for 1880 like you said.
