My mother found this a few years ago in Idaho. I think it is made from red rhyolite or some kind of volcanic rock. Anyone have any idea what it is? Resized_20190426_081557.webpResized_20190426_081510.webpResized_20190426_081615.webp

Not saying I'm a firm believer in this, but you can check out giant flint axes found. Some were found by archaeologists. Here's a couple of pics.giant-tools1.webpgiant-hammer.webp

Native American history/folklore sometimes includes stories of a giant race of people that were evil. They were wiped off the face of earth by a flood.
Sometimes they would find giant tools which were too large to be moved.
These tools are said to be deeply buried by time and that's why nobody ever finds them now.

Supposedly the only visible evidence are large rock cairns that were built by the giants long ago on the mountain peaks. The Indians would maintain these cairns because they felt they were the most ancient evidence.

That's a pretty big rock, that would take a long time to sink in the ground due to the flatness. its most likely what everyone said, a large preform/blade. Its hard to date artifacts unless you have more finds from a site. That is a monster artifact for sure.....thanks for sharing your mothers find.

Twenty-five cent term for that is Bifacial Core. Not likely paleo IMO, but same strategy.
