Large cent

nice, I have yet to find one

Hi; It is a Draped Bust Large Cent circa 1820's. Please post a picture of BOTH sides AFTER cleaning and we can nail it for you ok. Nice Find. PEACE:RONB

How should I clean it?

Draped bust were minted 1796-1807

I see an "8" on the right, so I'm thinking 1798. Nice snag!

How should I clean it?

Soak it in room temperature hydrogen peroxide for several hours. Handle it very gently and don't rub it much; the peroxide should lift a lot of the dirt and expose more of the detail.

Thank you. I will do that, I think. I'm worried about affecting value though.

Nice GM!!!!

How excited are you?

Most ground recovered coppers don't value well due to environmental damage. You won't devalue the coin by Glenn's method of cold peroxide. I use it myself. I recently recovered an exceptional large cent, take a look at this...

Clean it judiciously. As far as monetary value it really has very very little so enjoy it as a cool find.

Cool find!!! I've found 2 of those and the first one I got carried away with trying every chemical out there; result?? RUINED!!! Lol

Congrats on the LC! Like others have said, it has little monetary value, but you will always treasure the adrenaline rush!

That is a nice find. Thanks for the tips. The LCs are soaking in peroxide.

Cant wait to see how cleans up....(e.g pics please)
