A friend of mine has 200 acres of farm land near Marion Illinois, and has let me have the run of the place looking for homesites. Ive only found one so far but boy has it been a doozy. I actually found it last year, and only pulled some square nails and a few peices of pottery. But this spring when he plowed it up the goodies surfaced. I first found a couple of arrowheads laying on the surface, including a 3/4 marble handmade, and real nice. Then a couple of arrowheads. The about 3 weeks ago i found two large cents, one an 1835 the other im not sure but i think its an 1827.... I also found a small pin with the words "OLD ROUGH AND READY" ie Zachary Taylor hero of the Mexican War, puts that in the 1840's. I also found a brass plate that i think is from a pocket knife but all i can make out on it is " AMERICA". Ive also found some musket balls, ivory buttons and one black button with a flower cut into it, any help would be greatly appreciated. Everytime it rains new arrowheads appear. and just a few weeks ago i located another site with arrowheads on it that he recently plowed up. This 200 acres looks to be a great relic and arrowhead site. Wont be able to metal detect it until the fall, because it now has sunflowers and corn planted for the deer. But im sure I'll find some more goodies when he plows it again, i cant wait.
